One important step in the auto glass replacement process is the complete and correct preparation of the pinchweld prior to the installation of the glass. The pinchweld is the ledge surrounding the front opening of your vehicle that supports the windshield. If this portion of the frame isn't correctly prepared, the installation process will be compromised.

It is also important that the piece of auto glass being installed is properly primed and free of contaminants. The auto glass technician should also be trained in the urethane (adhesive) system they are using. Signs your auto glass technician isn't correctly trained

They re-use the old moulding
It is virtually impossible to remove the old moulding and clean it well enough to ensure a contamination-free auto glass install with a new windshield. This is a major safety concern. Many auto glass shops in Phoenix will give the customer a competitive price and then fail to use all new parts in the installation. This is a way for them to save money at your expense. Be sure that the company uses all new parts. This includes auto glass, moulding and clips.

They don't remove the cowl
The installer doesn't remove the cowl at the bottom of the windshield. This is a shortcut that can save the auto glass installer time, but it often results in water or air leaks. It can also create the risk of an unsafe bond of the glass to the automobile.

Excess urethane or wind noise
After the installation there is an excess of urethane around the glass, or there is a strange wind noise after the glass has been installed. Auto glass installation is a precise business. The technician should be clean and detailed. Sloppy work will certainly result in poor and unsafe results.
