What makes BMW windshields different?

The same BMW model can have several windshield versions depending on its options. A windshield that looks right but is missing one feature can leave you with a doubled HUD image, wipers that don't work on their own, or a camera that won't calibrate.

Head-up display
Many BMWs project speed, navigation and alerts onto the windshield. HUD glass has a wedge-shaped layer so the image stays sharp and single.
Rain & light sensor
BMW's sensor behind the mirror runs the auto wipers and headlights through the glass. We reinstall it with the right gel pad.
Acoustic & solar glass
Many BMWs use acoustic glass for a quiet cabin and solar-coated glass to cut heat, which matters in Arizona.
Camera
The Driving Assistant camera mounts to the glass behind the mirror. The bracket and viewing area have to match exactly.

BMW Driving Assistant and your windshield

Most newer BMWs have Driving Assistant, and many have Driving Assistant Professional. The front camera at the top of the windshield works with radar to power collision warning, lane departure warning and, on Professional, steering and lane control. Some newer models use a three-lens camera.

After a windshield replacement, that camera has to be recalibrated so its view of the road is exactly where BMW expects it.

Depending on the model and system, a BMW camera is recalibrated with targets in our shop or on a road drive. Our technicians run a pre-scan, calibrate with Autel equipment and run a post-scan before you leave.

Warns you and can brake if a collision with a vehicle or pedestrian ahead is likely.
Lane Departure Warning
Vibrates the steering wheel if you drift out of your lane.
Active Cruise Control
Keeps a set distance from the vehicle ahead, on select models down to a stop.

On Driving Assistant Professional, helps keep you centered in the lane.

Reads speed limit signs and shows them in the cluster or HUD.

BMW glass features

Head-up display, rain sensors and the right glass

If your BMW has a head-up display, the windshield has a thin, wedge-shaped layer that keeps the projected image sharp. Ordinary glass in its place causes a doubled, blurry image. We confirm HUD by VIN and order HUD glass when your BMW has it.

Your rain and light sensor reads through the glass using a gel pad. When we replace the windshield, we fit the sensor with the right pad so your automatic wipers and headlights work the way they did before.

Insurance

Does insurance cover a BMW windshield?

If you have comprehensive coverage, your BMW windshield replacement may be covered, minus your deductible. When recalibration is required, it's normally part of the same claim.

We set up a three-way call with your insurance company and help you file the claim. Paying out of pocket? You'll get a clear quote that includes the glass and the recalibration.

Does my BMW need camera recalibration after a windshield replacement?

Yes, if it has a front camera for Driving Assistant. We recalibrate it in house and confirm it with a post-scan.

Can you replace a BMW windshield with a head-up display?

Yes. We order HUD-specific glass for BMWs with a head-up display so the image stays sharp and single.

Will my automatic wipers still work?

Yes. We reinstall your rain and light sensor with the right gel pad so the auto wipers and headlights work like before.

Can I get mobile windshield replacement for my BMW?

Yes, at your home or office with covered parking. If your BMW needs a static calibration with targets, that part is done in our shop; we'll plan it with you when you book.

Can you repair a chip instead of replacing the windshield?

Often, yes. If the chip on your BMW is no bigger than a quarter, we can usually repair it in our shop: $79 for the first chip and $30 for each additional chip. Chip repairs are in-shop only.

Is there a warranty on my new BMW windshield?

Yes. Every windshield we install comes with our lifetime warranty on parts and workmanship.
