Subaru owners in Arizona drive a lot of dirt roads to trailheads, and that means a lot of rock chips. Most newer Subarus also have EyeSight, which uses two cameras that look through the top of the windshield. That makes the glass and the calibration more important on a Subaru than on most vehicles.

Know your glass
On an EyeSight Subaru, the windshield is part of the safety system. The two cameras see the road through it, so the glass has to be optically right in two places, not one.
EyeSight uses a pair of cameras spaced apart behind the mirror. The glass in front of both lenses has to be clear and distortion-free.
The EyeSight camera mounts to the glass. Its bracket has to sit exactly where Subaru designed it.
Many newer Subarus use acoustic glass to keep the cabin quiet on the highway.
Select Subarus have a heated area where the wipers rest, built into the windshield.
Subaru EyeSight
EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on most newer Subarus. Instead of one camera, it uses two cameras side by side, like a pair of eyes, to judge distance to the vehicle ahead. Some of the newest models add a third, wide-angle camera.
Because EyeSight compares what both cameras see, even a small difference in the glass or the camera angle can affect how it judges distance. After a windshield replacement, Subaru requires EyeSight to be recalibrated.
EyeSight is recalibrated with targets in our shop, so EyeSight Subarus are an in-shop job. Our technicians run a pre-scan, calibrate with Autel equipment and run a post-scan before you leave.

Why EyeSight is different
Most driver-assist systems use one camera. EyeSight uses two, and it measures distance by comparing the small difference between what each camera sees. If the glass in front of one camera bends light slightly differently than the glass in front of the other, that comparison can be off.
That's why Subaru is particular about the glass, why EyeSight Subarus get a static calibration in our shop, and why we confirm every EyeSight calibration with a post-scan. If EyeSight shows a warning after a windshield replacement anywhere, bring it in and we'll scan it.
How we do it
Send us your Subaru's year, model and VIN. We confirm the camera and features it has and quote OEM and aftermarket glass.
Your windshield is checked on our inspection stand, under high-intensity lighting, then installed with premium urethane by our own technicians.
We recalibrate the EyeSight camera, run a post-scan and walk you through the job before you go.
Insurance
If you have comprehensive coverage, your Subaru windshield replacement may be covered, minus your deductible. When recalibration is required, it's normally part of the same claim.
We set up a three-way call with your insurance company and help you file the claim. Paying out of pocket? You'll get a clear quote that includes the glass and the recalibration.

Yes. Subaru requires EyeSight to be recalibrated after the windshield is replaced. We do it in our shop with targets and confirm it with a post-scan.
If your Subaru has EyeSight, the calibration has to be done in our shop, so we'll schedule the whole job there. Subarus without EyeSight can get mobile windshield replacement with covered parking.
On an EyeSight Subaru, yes, when it's available. Subaru recommends genuine glass because EyeSight's two cameras both look through it.
Yes. Bring it in and we'll scan it, check the glass and the camera, and recalibrate it if that's what it needs.
Often, yes. If the chip on your Subaru is no bigger than a quarter, we can usually repair it in our shop: $79 for the first chip and $30 for each additional chip. Chip repairs are in-shop only.
