What makes Volvo windshields different?

The same Volvo model can have several windshield versions depending on its options. We confirm yours by VIN so the glass matches your camera and features.

Camera module
City Safety and Pilot Assist use a camera module mounted to the glass behind the mirror. Its position has to match exactly.
Heated windshield
Select Volvos have a heated windshield with fine wires in the glass. The replacement has to have them too.
Head-up display
Select XC60, XC90 and other models have a head-up display and need HUD-specific glass.
Rain sensor & acoustic glass
Many Volvos have rain-sensing wipers and acoustic glass for a quiet cabin.

Volvo City Safety

City Safety, Pilot Assist and your windshield

City Safety is standard on newer Volvos. It watches for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals ahead and can brake on its own. Many Volvos also have Pilot Assist, which helps with steering and cruise on the highway. Both rely on the camera at the top of the windshield.

After a windshield replacement, that camera has to be recalibrated so City Safety and Pilot Assist see the road the way Volvo designed them to.

Depending on the model, a Volvo camera is recalibrated with targets in our shop or on a road drive. Our technicians run a pre-scan, calibrate with Autel equipment and run a post-scan before you leave.

City Safety
Warns you and can brake for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals ahead.
Pilot Assist
On select models, helps with steering, acceleration and braking on the highway.
Lane Keeping Aid
Gently steers you back if you start to drift out of your lane.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Keeps a set distance from the vehicle ahead.

If your Volvo has City Safety features or a head-up display, OEM glass is the safest choice for the camera and the display. Using insurance? Some policies only pay for aftermarket glass. We'll check your coverage and explain any difference before you decide.

Insurance

Does insurance cover a Volvo windshield?

If you have comprehensive coverage, your Volvo windshield replacement may be covered, minus your deductible. When recalibration is required, it's normally part of the same claim.

We set up a three-way call with your insurance company and help you file the claim. Paying out of pocket? You'll get a clear quote that includes the glass and the recalibration.

Does my Volvo need camera recalibration after a windshield replacement?

Yes. City Safety and Pilot Assist use the camera behind the windshield, so it has to be recalibrated after the glass is replaced. We do it in house and confirm it with a post-scan.

Can you replace a heated Volvo windshield?

Yes. We order the heated version of the glass when your Volvo has it, so the feature keeps working.

Can you replace a Volvo windshield with a head-up display?

Yes. We order HUD-specific glass for Volvos with a head-up display.

Can I get mobile windshield replacement for my Volvo?

Yes, at your home or office with covered parking. If your Volvo needs a static calibration with targets, that part is done in our shop; we'll plan it with you when you book.

Can you repair a chip instead of replacing the windshield?

Often, yes. If the chip on your Volvo is no bigger than a quarter, we can usually repair it in our shop: $79 for the first chip and $30 for each additional chip. Chip repairs are in-shop only.

Is there a warranty on my new Volvo windshield?

Yes. Every windshield we install comes with our lifetime warranty on parts and workmanship.
